Nepali Graffiti Yoga
Observations from Mr. Eric Lon, French yogi.

When walking within the streets of Kathmandu anybody can look many political graffitis on the walls. This makes the capital of Nepal dirtier. Amongst these slogans there is also a curious sign a bit similar to an interrogation mark, or a shit. It is often upside down. The same graffitis are also visible in the Nepali National Parks. This is a new kind of Nepali yoga: the yoga of revolution.

In addition to some telephone numbers with the same red color they are the words “lovism” and “heavenly path”.
What does it means? Who has given permission to paint these slogans in the National Parks where Nature is supposed to be respected by anybody? No permission has been granted. Painting the rocks, spoiling their nature is illegal.

Trekking in different parts of Nepal I have asked questions about the origin of these graffitis, talking with local people as well as with the officers of the National Parks. The graffitis are usually done by night on the private houses, the public buildings and also many telephone poles. Nobody asked for any permission before painting. The red painters are usually acting in small groups of six to eight people, using the Maoist guerilla tactique. These painters are not local people. They make the local people afraid because it is said they are unsatisfied Maoists..

Is this way of acting connected with yoga, which means to unite, to harmonize people?

No! This guerilla technique is in complete opposition to the Universal spirit and meaning of peaceful yoga. What means the word “lovism”? Painted from the red hands it has nothing to do with Love.
What means “heavenly path”? It has no meaning except if these people are confusing Hells and Heaven.

At Jomosom, the door of Mustang, I have been told by a reliable governmental employee that a big group of these red yogis, who are wearing purple clothes to make evident their belonging to a new sect, came to this peaceful city in order to get new members. They have demonstrated their yoga style but no local people took part.

In May 2008, at the center of Kathmandu, within Ratana Park, I have personally noticed that, early morning they where about twenty people used to practice aerobic exercises with a loud modern music. I have been told that it is a new kind of Nepali yoga but I could not recognize yoga. At the same time, at the opposite part of the park, close to Army headquarters, there is every morning hundred of Nepali people of all ages who are practicing genuine yoga.

As a French yogi I am pleased to see that most of the Nepali people are able to make the difference between true yoga and duplicated yoga. I heard that these red or purple yogis have organized a very special demonstration at New Road, a popular road leading to the park. All the male sect members were parading naked, showing their organs as new yogic weapons. The Nepali police tried to hide them. These photos are visible on Internet.
People are laughing but they do not understand the relationships which may exist between this “Nepali Gay Parade” and the traditional yoga way.  Is it the “heavenly path” promoted by this sect?

In May 2008 this sect was used to make a public show every Saturday, at Ratana Park, using the central building as a tribune. This demonstrates that they have permission from the new government of Nepal to promote the “yoga of revolution” .
One sect man was standing on his head for long time. A sect speaker told to the public that this person will keep the head stand posture as long as necessary to get in the “Golden Book of Records”. Yoga has nothing to do with any kind of competition. Forcing a posture under the control of the “sect guru” in order to get advertisement is related to the circus but not to Yoga. This yogi was acting as a clown.

During this fair, the sect members were selling various books. I noticed that this guru has written many books, with his portrait on the cover page.  I was very surprised to see books about Adolph Hitler. This man was responsible for the Second World War. He killed millions of people before to commit suicide. His book has nothing to do with yoga close to respectable books written by Swami Ram Dev and Osho. Mixing different kinds of books is disturbing and dangerous.

What is the meaning of the logo of this sect? It is like circles getting bigger and ending by one or several dots. It can be upside-down with the dot on the top. In my opinion it may be the representation of the intestines with the dot as the shit.
This is the representation of the elimination and it may be connected with the concept of revolution.
I do not see any connection with yoga except when the logo is upside down. In this case it may represent the sect member forced to hold the head stand posture for so long that he has to reject his shit upside down. His shit will fall down on his head.
The best location for this logo is at the toilets around Ratana Park, Kathmandu.

This new kind of Nepali graffiti yoga is not based upon “lovism” but under “shitism”. The trekkers could have a brush to clean the rocks from these graffitis…
